BIO // David RP Almeida, MD MBA PhD, is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon. He completed an Honors Bachelor of Science (University of Toronto, Canada), PhD in Pharmaceutical Drug Research (University of Szeged, Hungary), MBA in healthcare management (The George Washington University, USA), medical school (Queen’s University, Canada), ophthalmology residency (Queen’s University, Canada), and a vitreoretinal diseases and surgery fellowship (University of Iowa, USA).
Dr. Almeida joined Metrolina Eye Associates, a full-service eye care practice with an esteemed reputation for excellence in North Carolina and South Carolina, in June 2018. With central offices in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Almeida and Metrolina Eye Associates diagnose and treat all medical and surgical conditions of the Vitreous, Retina and Macula. Previously, he was part of the attending faculty at VitreoRetinal Surgery PA, the largest vitreoretinal practice in Minnesota.

Dr. Almeida has over 120 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 national and international conference and keynote presentations. His research interests include proliferative vitreoretinopathy, infectious endophthalmitis, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration and complex surgical techniques. He has received numerous awards from the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and is regularly recognized in Top Doctor Awards.
David’s best-selling book, Decision Diagnosis: Seven Antidotes to Decision Procrastination, blends the spheres of medicine, science, business, and leadership to present new concepts and strategies for successful management. During his free time, David loves to travel with his wife Jasmine and his three children, Max, Leo & Paloma. David is also a competitive national squash player and an avid guitar player.
